Some genius of a programmer has come up with something that'll run a selection of British TV channels (BBC 1-4, Channel 4, ITV etc.) down your broadband and through VLC so you can watch them as they're transmitted over here no matter where you are in the world,
tzikeh has a explanation of how it works up here and you can nab the .exe files from here.
Haven't tried it myself yet so can't comment on the quality of the streams but it can't be any worse than the reception my telly currently gets for Channel 5!
EDIT:
tyrell went into a bit more detail here, the five main terrestrial channels seem to be working for most people, other channels are spotty, and I have no clue how legal this is given that Freesat is effectively a free set of channels for the UK.

EDIT:
I am now in a ridiculously good mood :)
The frog is officially bound for little green car heaven, I'm off to the garage tomorrow to clear stuff out, take some photos, and give it a little pat goodbye.
Thieved from
tyrell Genius tongue in cheek advertising from Denmark for washing powder of all things - all they missed was puppies and kittens.
And it's called Jaroo.com - it seems to be like Hulu for kids but without the stupid "We cannot play this video in your country" bollocks, plus it's filled with some really old series. So you can watch whole episodes of things like:
• Ulysses in the 31st Century
• Pole Position
• Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors(!!!!)
• The Wombles
• Inspector Gadget
• Dreamstone
Yay!

Time for bed, tea, and horror films.
Oh and Happy Halloween!

Like a few million other people I stayed up past my bedtime to watch Question Time last night (well, that and write smut) and it was an interesting bit of telly, Bonnie Greer is brilliant although I don't think he'll be taking her up on the offer of a guided tour of the British museum. There were times when I *almost* felt sorry for the guy - then I remembered he was a racist fuckwit and the feeling went away.
Favourite quote of the evening had to be the comment on the Klu Klux Klan being a "mostly non-violent organisation" - honestly, I wish I was making this shit up. Personally I'm glad the Beeb put him on, he didn't come off well, and the further comments in the press today about London "no longer [being] a British city" are only helping push him firmly into tinfoil hat territory.
Annnyway - moving swiftly on...
Off to MK this evening for a weekend with the girlies to celebrate Coz's birthday, there will be shopping, gossip, much alcohol, and ZOMBIES! Great stuff :)
*For the Americans reading this Griffin's the leader of a far-right political party called the BNP over here in the UK, a group of muppets who decided they were getting too old and fat to be sporting DMs and skinheads while they beat up anyone non-white, so decided to go down to Moss Bros. and make themselves into more cuddly fascists instead. They also managed to swing a seat in the European Parliament last year - so yeah, America doesn't have the monopoly on idiots.

Doze off on sofa at six yesterday - wake about twenty minutes ago to a very cold cup of tea.
Oops.

Creepy as hell fan trailer.
Actual content to come - it's been a crazy couple of weeks!

The rather splendid
alasdair is currently perched atop the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square looking very dapper - go have a look!
Thieved from all over the place:
I had to suppress a geek induced squee at the USB/multi-plug travel adapter, really, really hope they get this off the ground.
Okay I'll start this by being honest - I was a HUGE x-book comic nerd in the 90s/early 00s and my love of Deadpool as a character written by Joe Kelly is possibly a little unhealthy, so with that in mind....
( possible spoilers )
Now for the long drive home.

Skip ahead to 2:20 :)
Thieved from more people than I can list: If you saw me in the back of a police car, what would you assume I'd been arrested for?*
In other news, well there is other news but my brain is melting from the torrent of agency calls, a book sized application form, and a story that refuses to co-operate so I'll save that for tomorrow!
*(Bonus points for particularly creative/descriptive/obscure law breaking)

I'm knackered and a wee bit drunk but THANK YOU AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll get the animation nerdity out of the way first because sweet jesus on a pogo stick it was beautiful, they mimicked all the little faults and nuances that go with real cameras, the textures are breathtaking, lighting, atmosphere, characterisation without resorting to extensive dialogue, minimal movement to convey mood. I could merrily rave for hours about how well done every second of the Earth based sequences were from an animation, story telling, and technical angle but I'm not that evil. Long story short - ohhh preeeeety.
Where things fell down a little for me was the arrival of the humans, I don't know if it would have worked better if Pixar had taken the leap and stuck the humans in stasis (although they'd have lost some of their 'humanity yay!' and 'corporations boo!' moments I don't think it would have suffered that much) but hell I can ignore that for the 'define dancing' scene which left me utterly enchanted, and frankly, a little lumpy throated.
Ultimately it's a film about hope, but realistic in it's own way, it shows the more extreme consequences of our current path and moves swiftly on to the beauty and wonder we're capable of as a species if only we'd get past the petty shit and open our eyes, which is why I loved it - the robots are just a bonus.
If you haven't already seen it go!
Although I had to laugh when confronted with a wall of Wall.e merchandise that'll invariably end up in landfill sites across the globe when I popped into the Disney shop, not that it stopped me buying a couple of things mind. ;)

The Incredible Hulk
"Hulk. Smash!" Yes. Hulk. Smash. Yes. Smash. Big Hulk smash. Smash cars. Buildings. Army tanks. Hulk not just smash. Hulk also go rarrr! Then smash again. Smash important, obviously. Smash Hulk's USP. What Hulk smash most? Hulk smash all hope of interesting time in cinema. Hulk take all effort of cinema, effort getting babysitter, effort finding parking, and Hulk put great green fist right through it. Hulk crush all hopes of entertainment. Hulk in boring film. Film co-written by star. Edward Norton. Norton in it. Norton write it. Norton not need gamma-radiation poisoning to get big head. Thing is: Hulk head weirdly small. Compared with rest of big green body.
